How to Pull A Side Mirror at a Junkyard: Tools & Tips

General guidance, not instructions for your exact car. Bolt sizes, steps and tools vary by year, make and model. Watch a video for your exact vehicle and follow the yard's safety rules.

Tools to bring

Plastic trim tool, Phillips screwdriver, 8–10mm sockets with a short extension, Torx bits on some cars.

Typical steps

  1. Lower the window if the car's power still works (most yard cars won't).
  2. Remove the small triangle cover inside the door where the mirror mounts, or on some cars the whole door panel.
  3. Unplug the mirror's wiring if it's power or heated, and push the grommet through.
  4. Hold the mirror from outside while you remove the last nut, so it doesn't fall.

Before you pay

Check that the glass isn't cracked and the housing isn't loose. Power, heat, fold and signal features vary, so match the connector and features to your car.
